A thrilling conclusion to the season! The IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge finale at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta delivered an exciting race and a dramatic championship outcome.
Moisey Uretsky and Michael Cooper, representing Ibiza Farm Motorsports, emerged victorious after a hard-fought battle. Their team, with the No. 44 McLaren Artura GT4, secured their third win of the season, showcasing their dominance at key tracks like Daytona and Indianapolis.
But here's where it gets controversial... The real story of the race was the title battle. RS1's Luca Mars and Jan Heylen, driving the No. 28 Porsche, claimed the GS championship with a sixth-place finish. Despite a challenging restart after a safety car period, Heylen managed to stay out of trouble and secure the title, succeeding Team TGM's Matt Plumb.
And this is the part most people miss... The race also witnessed a remarkable debut for Beltre Curtis, the son of former Turner driver Bret Curtis. Curtis, alongside Robby Foley, finished third in the No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW, an impressive feat for a rookie.
In the TCR category, Victor Gonzalez Racing Team continued their winning streak, taking back-to-back class victories. However, the real hero of the day was Harry Gottsacker, who clinched the TCR championship by finishing fourth. Gottsacker, driving the No. 76 BHA Hyundai, narrowly held on to his title, becoming a two-time TCR champion.
The race was not without its controversies. A Full Course Yellow period reshuffled the order, and a late-race incident involving Sam Paley and Dillon Machavern caused a spin, highlighting the intense competition on track.
So, what do you think? Was the championship outcome fair? And who impressed you the most during this thrilling finale? Let's discuss in the comments!
